As a disabled veteran, I receive most of my care through the Baltimore VA Medical Center. However, I recently had to have a transforaminal epidural steroid injection (05/05/2026) and was referred to University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore. From beginning to end, my experience was superb. From my very first point of contact with Dawanna, the Clinical Surgical Manager, to my check-in experience, to my nurse (whose name I unfortunately cannot remember), every single person treated me with kindness, professionalism, and care. And Dr. Arnold? His bedside manner is truly a 100/10. He answered every one of my questions thoroughly while explaining everything in a way that never left me feeling confused or overwhelmed. The way he eased my mind and calmed my nerves before the procedure was exceptional. Honestly, he could teach a master class on bedside manners. As a matter of fact, the entire staff at University of Maryland Medical Center could teach a master class to other medical facilities on patient care and compassion. Thank you to everyone who played a part in my care. Your kindness, patience, and professionalism did not go unnoticed. (Nakia Hixon-Sample)

Labor and delivery was such a horrid experience for me. I wish I read the reviews first. My OB and the surgical team were wonderful. It’s everything and everyone else. Anesthesiology will try to trick you into allowing a resident to administer your epidural. Mine resulted in a dural puncture. No one told me, I only saw it written in my clinical notes. I have an ongoing headache days later as a result. No one communicates. Between residents, nurses and attending, no one is on the same page. My son had to have blue light therapy which resulted in an additional nights stay. We only knew about the longer stay once they wheeled the blue light machinery into our room. And yes, if your child needs this therapy, you handle and manage it yourself. He needed 12 continuous hours and they refused to put him in an incubator after a nurse said we could if our child didn’t tolerate the open air, non swaddled environment. The food is terrible, my room had items left behind from the last patient including mifiprestone pills. The nurses were inconsistent with standards during their checks (some recorded feedings, urine, bowel movements, some didn’t, my last nurse asked me if I had been using the spirometer and a disinfectant foam they offer, too late for that!) I could go on but will stop there. Please avoid this hospital, it’s unsafe and they offer you the bare minimum. This was my third child and very easily THE WORST experience.

They saved my life! I was treated with respect, care, and a sense of urgency. 14 days in the Neuro ICU and each and every nurse assigned to me was phenomenal. They recognized it was the scariest moment of my life, and made sure I never felt alone. I don’t like to put names out there but my ladies know who they are! I truly love you all. And to my Neuro team of Drs, PAs, CRNPs, CRNAs, surgeons, and my techs thank you, thank you, thank you. I will be forever grateful for the care bestowed upon me. But one last thing…don’t throw away (dread)locs during surgical procedures when you need to shave heads! They are our real hair and we actually can reattach them. Just a learning moment for your future encounters with patients who have locs.

My mother was transferred here from the Midtown campus to the Neuro-ICU after complex seizures. The neuro team was the only team who could successfully stop her seizures and they took great care of her. We had consistent updates, support, and knowledgeable professionals. Of course as soon as they stabilized her, they sent her back to Midtown, I wish she would have went here first because the Neuro-ICU team knows their stuff! My Mother was treated like a person, not a case study. I am forever grateful to the Neuro-ICU staff💕

My fiance has been sitting in the waiting room since 8pm last night. He was called back to back only to be now almpst 24 hours spent in the ED in pain with no resolution. Being told there is no beds. To not eating with promises of a procedure that still hasnt happened. Smh worse hospital ever!!!!! Mind you his condition is from a procedure they did at the hospital years ago.
