We came for a postmenopausal bleeding evaluation. Arrived at 4:40PM and weren't seen until almost 8PM. Fine, I get it, urgent cares are busy. But the wait wasn't even the worst part. The doctor barely took any history. Asked when menopause started, allergies, and the color of the spotting. When we volunteered how many episodes there were, she didn't even follow up on that. Didn't ask about vaginal dryness, sexual activity, activity level, nothing. And when we described pinkish spotting on tissue paper, she dismissed it entirely saying it's not active bleeding and doesn't need evaluation. This contradicts established medical guidelines. No pelvic exam was done. When we asked, we were dismissed. And then the doctor said something that genuinely shocked me. She told us postmenopausal bleeding only needs evaluation if it's heavy and filling pads. Every single medical guideline, including ACOG, states the exact opposite. Any postmenopausal bleeding, no matter how light, warrants evaluation. This is not a gray area. This is standard, established gynecological care. I don't know where she got her information but it contradicts everything out there. The urine test came back with trace blood. The doctor's exact words were that she doesn't know why there is blood in the urine, it could be anything from benign to serious, but she is not going to do anything about it. She found an abnormal result, admitted uncertainty about its cause, acknowledged it could be serious, and simply told us to follow up with a GP. What makes this even more unacceptable is that we explicitly told the doctor patient is visiting from abroad on travel insurance and does not have a GP here. Despite knowing this, her only advice was to follow up with a GP. No referral, no alternative, no acknowledgment that this advice was completely impractical for our situation. We sat in that room for hours, hungry, while results were apparently ready and just sitting there. Nobody came. Nobody communicated. We had to keep flagging people down for basic updates. Came for a specific concern. Left with zero answers and incorrect medical advice.

My wife and I arrived at Scripps La Jolla Urgent Care at exactly 1:30pm today 5/28, to examine an eye problem, a Branch Retinal Vein Occlusion in my wife's left eye. She was shuffled (with me at her side) in and out of several rooms for tests. The people that were doing tests, consultation, etc. were 1 PA, and 2 or 3 nurse type ladies. We were told by the PA that he was getting in touch with the Eye Doctor to get her into his office for a good examination. We waited and waited and waited. When 5 pm came, I told we decided to leave, but on the way out asked the PA if he could just give us the name of an eye doctor and we could call him ourselves. Her eyesight in her left eye was zero, she couldn't even see me sitting only 5 feet away (with her left eye). But our final attempt to find out the name of an eye doctor at Scripps failed, so we decided to leave. As we were leaving, 4 or 5 nurse/admin type women approached us and said we would be leaving against "AMA," (against medical advice). I told them we had been there by that time over 5 hours, and nothing was happening there at Urgent Care. But one lady screamed that they cannot let her leave because I was forcing her to leave. I protested and they brought in 5 or 6 security guards to prevent me from taking my wife out of that nut house. I began hollering, too, enough that it got the attention of the PA, who came running over and said the eye doctor (Ophthalmologist) could see her right now!. The visit with him went very very well, but 2 guards stood right outside the door the whole time (guns and all). It was almost 7pm when we got home. Aah, Home Again. BUT NO! A half-hour after we got home, 2 SD Policemen were at our door asking my wife if I had been hitting or hurting her Apparently you get punished if you care about someone you love. Why should I hurt her if it is me taking her to the doctor? Her eyeball by the way, was, according to eye doctor, as hard as a golf ball.

I brought my son in late one night for a broken wrist while on vacation. The staff was very friendly and quick to get my son in to be seen. The staff took great care in ensuring my son did not sit in pain for too long. They got him right into an x-ray and bandaged up quickly so we didn’t need to sit there all night. I really appreciated how well the staff took care of him.

This was the best emergency hospital experience I’ve ever had. Scripps urgent care runs like a well oiled machine. We were on travel to La Jolla and at 1 we decided we absolutely needed to take my 7 year old son to see a doctor as he had trouble breathing and a croup-ey cough. Everything from parking, check in with the lovely ladies upfront and nurses who made my kid feel super comfortable (they even gave him a little shark stuffy) and within the hour we saw a super kind and well-spoken and we’re on our way home. They said they would call with test results and any additional instructions in case anything came back positive. I was expecting to spend to hours on the phone that morning on hold, but sure enough, there was a voicemail saying he tested positive for flu and they sent the prescription to the pharmacy so it was ready to go. Wow, wow! This is how medical care should be!! 5 stars all around.

My loved one got scammed. She checked to make sure thst her insurance would cover the visit, which they confirmed, and then they paired her off with a doctor that was not covered by her insurance. “Nothing they can do”. $900 later she is screwed. Beware and avoid if you can.
